  • Painted Surfaces: Exterior signs should be softly washed with clean water and a gentle shampoo containing a UV resistant wax 3-4 times a year to protect the painted surface.

  • Acrylic Surfaces: Use a moistened damp brush or window cleaning system. Attention to detail does not damage the paper inserts used by maintaining an even amount of solution. It’s important to ensure no dust, pollen, or dirt particles are rubbed into the surface.

  • Plastic Surfaces or Components: Use a clean soft cloth or pure water window cleaning brush along with a mild detergent.

  • A dry cloth or paper towel

 

How Often Should Cleaning Be Performed?

Airborne pollutants can all adversely affect painted surfaces if signs are not adequately maintained. Below are a few important items to consider for your signage cleaning:

  • Lime

  • Oil-based deposits

  • Sulfur dioxide

  • Acids

  • Other types of airborne pollutants

  • Deposits from trees and bushes (resin, pollen)

  • Bird droppings, all rich in alkali, should be removed promptly to avoid damage.

  • Coastal area’s high concentrations of salt, particularly if coupled with high humidity, may adversely affect the wear characteristics of painted finishes.
